Following the success of “Sanju,” Ranbir Kapoor has reportedly agreed to play former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly in an upcoming biopic.
According to RevSportz, an online news outlet, Ranbir has been cast in the lead role of the biopic. As part of his research for the role, the actor will reportedly visit Ganguly’s home, his club, and Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata.
There were reportedly some scheduling issues at first, but it appears that Ranbir has now given his approval.
It was announced in 2021 that a biopic would be made, and since then, actors such as Sidharth Malhotra and Hrithik Roshan have been mentioned as potential leads in the film.
Yes, I have approved the biopic. The film will be made in Hindi, but the identity of the director will be kept secret for the time being. “It will take some more time for everything to be finalised,” Ganguly previously told News 18 Bangla.
As far as we know, Sourav Ganguly has given his blessing to the film, and principal photography will begin soon in Kolkata.
Luv Films is producing the biopic. The production company co-founded by filmmaker Luv Ranjan and actor Ankur Garg announced the film in 2021.
With the caption “Let’s get this ball rolling,” Ganguly had also confirmed the news on social media.
“Cricket has meant the world to me; it has given me the strength to face the future with my head held high and the self-assurance to do so.
“Thrilled to share Luv Films will produce a biopic on my journey and bring it to life for the big screen (sic),” the famous cricketer said in an Instagram post.
“Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety,” “De De Pyaar De,” “Malang,” and “Chhalaang” are just a few of the films produced by Luv Films. “Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar,” a new film starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, will be released in theatres on March 8.
