The Punjab Police released images of ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh in different attires and have requested people to help arrest him. Punjab IGP Sukhchain Singh Gill said that Singh, a Khalistani leader, was still on the run even though police have recovered the vehicle in which he fled.
Four People Arrested For Helping Singh Escape
Four people have been arrested for helping Amritpal Singh escape, and Arms Act has been invoked against them. The four arrested include Manpreet Singh alias Manna, Gurdeep Singh alias Deepa, Harpreet Singh alias Happy, and Gurbhej Singh alias Bheja. According to the police, Singh visited a gurudwara in Jalandhar district and changed his clothes to evade the police. He then switched from a car to a motorcycle to escape arrest.
Efforts To Arrest Singh Continues
As of now, 154 people have been arrested and taken into custody. Around 12 weapons, including rifles and revolver, have been recovered. The Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is monitoring the situation and taking regular feedback from police officers. The police are making all efforts to arrest Singh and are hopeful of his arrest soon. Punjab Police is receiving full cooperation from other states and central agencies.
Crackdown Against Khalistani Sympathiser
The Punjab Police launched a major crackdown against Amritpal Singh and members of his outfit Waris Punjab De on Saturday. A non-bailable warrant has also been issued against him, and the stringent National Security Act (NSA) has been invoked against him. Singh gave the police the slip when his cavalcade was intercepted in Jalandhar district.
