The First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 500 (punishment for defamation). These articles have sparked a debate online, with many criticizing the authors for their references and insinuations against the iconic social reformer.
Maharashtra CM Shinde Orders Action Against Websites Publishing ‘Objectionable’ Articles
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed officials to verify the content of the articles on the websites Indic Tales and Hindu Post and take appropriate action. Shinde emphasized the need for utmost care while writing about icons and conducting a detailed study to ensure that it does not hurt anyone’s sentiments. Several social and political organizations have also protested against the objectionable article on Savitribai Phule, prompting the Chief Minister’s Office to take action.
NCP Leaders Stage Protest, Demand Action Against Websites
Senior leaders of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), including Ajit Pawar, Jayant Patil, Sunil Tatkare, and Chhagan Bhujbal, along with party workers, staged a protest outside the Mumbai police commissioner’s office. They demanded action against the two websites for publishing objectionable articles against Phule. In a memorandum submitted to the city police chief, the NCP leaders condemned the objectionable remarks made by a person claiming to be ‘Bharadwaj’ against Savitribai Phule. They urged the police to book the websites, the authors, and remove the article from all media platforms.
