The Delhi Police visited the Uttar Pradesh home of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan and interviewed his associates and workers regarding the sexual harassment charges brought against him by protesting wrestlers. The police are collecting evidence and recording statements to investigate the case. The girl whose statement led to the registration of the case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has also provided a fresh statement under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) section 164. The police will submit a report to the court based on their findings.
Sensitive Case: Statements Recorded and Investigation Continues
A team from the Delhi Police visited Gonda and recorded statements from Brij Bhushan’s associates and household workers, including his driver. This step is part of the ongoing investigation to gather evidence and compare the testimonies of the witnesses, Brij Bhushan, and the complainants involved in the case. Due to the sensitive nature of the case, the officials declined to disclose any further details. During the statement recording, the team checked the identification documents and noted the addresses of the individuals involved.
Wrestlers Protest Sexual Harassment Allegations Against WFI Chief
Prominent wrestlers, including Olympic medallists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, have accused Brij Bhushan, the outgoing WFI chief, of sexually harassing women. They met with Home Minister Amit Shah to express their concerns. Following the meeting, a protest planned by the farmers’ body Bhartiya Kisan Union in support of the wrestlers has been called off. Last week, the wrestlers threatened to immerse their medals in a river as a form of protest, expressing dissatisfaction with the progress of the investigation. Brij Bhushan dismissed the protest as an emotional drama and claimed that he would only face punishment if the wrestlers could provide evidence of his wrongdoing.
