The MG Comet is not your usual car and our first drive with this new EV showed how different it is along with being a fun little city car. However, a true test is when you spend some time with it. Hence, we spent five days with the MG Comet to see how good it is to drive.
Exterior and Interior Design
First of all, the tiny dimensions do not impact the attention it draws. Everyone comes to have a good look because it is something very different. The styling punches more than its dimensions while a closer look revealed premium quality along with a good paint finish. It feels premium and the same thing can be said for the interiors.
Compact City Car Experience
While the grey/white look can be a dirt magnet, the design is simple and again simply works. You will be using this as a city car and for that, it just about has enough space for a laptop bag of sorts. The starting procedure is again simple with not even having a start/stop button. A simple two taps on the brake pedal and you are off with a simple procedure of turning off the car also as you simply need to walk away and lock it. Visibility, as our first drive review stated, is excellent and the small dimensions made it a joy to drive.
Maneuverability and Driving Experience
The turning circle is under 4.2 meters, and that means you can do some stuff you can’t do with other cars. You will rarely need to take 3-point turns with this car, and finding parking spots has never been this easy. The Comet is light and easy to drive, but the driving experience is suitably premium with a linear power delivery. It is light and fun to drive with its 40-odd horsepower being enough. In fact, I rarely used anything else than the eco mode on the car. There is Normal and Sport. If you want to zip around, Normal is best; Sport is not needed. For going around the city, the ride isn’t firm, but you do get bounced around a bit. Also, as our first drive said, big potholes or speed breakers need to be dealt with caution as it has tiny 12-inch wheels. That said, it does not feel sluggish or too crude, which is perhaps the biggest highlight of the car. Despite its size, it feels like any of those premium EVs with those twin screens further showcasing this point.
Features and Range
For such a small car, you get all of the kits including LED headlamps, a rear camera display, TPMS, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, a connected car, a digital key, etc. No cost-cutting here. In terms of range also you will get closer to its official estimate and expect 160-180km easily. We got 180km which is quite impressive. Charging is where we think the MG Comet needs to get fast charging as it is currently not equipped with it. You can only charge it via a standard AC home charger while fast AC or DC charging is not available. Hence, this is something you need to take care of and charge at your home only. Hence, the charging time is around 5-6 hours to get to 80 percent.
