Several Congress leaders, including former Ministers, MLAs, and MPs, gathered at Gandhi Park in Kerala to participate in a silent protest, expressing solidarity with Rahul Gandhi. The protest comes after Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha due to his conviction in a defamation case in Thiruvananthapuram.
Strong presence of Congress leaders at the protest
Kerala PCC chief K Sudhakaran, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly V D Satheesan, MPs Kodikunnil Suresh, Rajmohan Unnithan, K Muraleedharan, as well as presidents of various District Congress Committees, were among those who joined the silent protest. The protest continued until the evening, with Congress leaders coming together to support Rahul Gandhi.
Accusations against the Modi government
During the protest, KPCC working president Suresh accused the Centre, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling BJP, of attempting to keep Rahul Gandhi away from Parliament. Suresh stated that the Modi government was insulting Gandhi and trying to exclude him from parliamentary activities. However, he assured that Congress workers across the country would unite to counter such actions.
Communication from Congress General Secretary
Before the protest, Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal wrote to all state unit heads of the party and important functionaries, informing them about the demonstration. This communication followed the rejection of Gandhi’s plea for a stay on his conviction in a criminal defamation case, commonly known as the “Modi surname” case, by the Gujarat High Court. Venugopal highlighted how Rahul Gandhi’s consistent questioning and exposure of the relationship between Modi and Adani had forced the Prime Minister and the BJP to resort to measures that led to his conviction and disqualification from the Lok Sabha.
The silent protest by Kerala Congress workers serves as a show of support for Rahul Gandhi, who faces disqualification from the Lok Sabha. The Congress leaders’ gathering demonstrates their solidarity with Gandhi and their commitment to fight against the attempts to sideline him from parliamentary activities.
