In a recent incident in Kerala’s Kottayam district, a man has been booked for allegedly misbehaving with a female doctor at a government health facility. The incident occurred on October 21, when the doctor was taking a break for a meal.
Complaint Filed by Doctor Sreeja Raj
The accused, identified as Shahim, was registered with a case based on a complaint filed by Dr. Sreeja Raj, a 37-year-old medical professional. The complaint encompasses various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including wrongful restraint (Section 341), usage of obscene words (Section 294 B), and deterring a public servant from the discharge of duty (Section 353). Additionally, provisions of the Kerala Healthcare Service Persons and Healthcare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act were invoked.
Accused Linked to CPI(M)
The accused, Shahim, is reportedly affiliated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M), as reported by news agency PTI. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident unfolded when the doctor left the treatment room around 2:30 pm after a long day’s work to grab a quick meal. However, her departure was met with protests and arguments from patients, including the accused. Theseconfrontations ultimately led to her losing consciousness.
