Assam HS First Year Exam Cancellation: Major Breach Leads to 2025 Exams Cancellation

The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) has made a significant decision by cancelling the remaining subjects in the ongoing Higher Secondary First Year Examination, 2025. This action follows reports of a question paper leak and breaches in examination protocol. The exams, originally scheduled from March 24 to March 29, 2025, have been called off after serious concerns arose over the integrity of the remaining question papers.

According to a release from the board, the decision was triggered by the leak of the Mathematics question paper. On March 20, 2025, the sealed packets containing the Mathematics exam papers were reportedly opened by several institutions before the scheduled time. The examination for the subject was initially set to take place on March 21, 2025, in the second session of the day. The board received reports stating that some schools had prematurely opened these packets, raising suspicions of a larger-scale leakage.

Investigation and Cancellation of Remaining Exams

The release from ASSEB further noted that due to the breach in protocol, it could not be ruled out that other question papers in the remaining subjects might also have been compromised. The sealed packets for all remaining subjects were under the custody of institutions across Assam, and the potential for further leaks could not be ignored. As a result, the board made the difficult decision to cancel all remaining examinations scheduled from March 24 to March 29, 2025.

The order issued by Ranjan Kumar Das, the Controller of Examinations i/c at ASSEB, highlighted the board’s determination to maintain the integrity of the examination process. The board stated that further steps and decisions will be communicated to all concerned parties following a meeting scheduled for March 24, 2025.

Suspension of Schools Involved in the Leak

In addition to the cancellation of exams, ASSEB also suspended the affiliation of 15 private schools across 10 districts of Assam. These institutions were found to have broken the seal of the Mathematics question papers before the scheduled time, leading to the leak. The board’s action has drawn attention to the serious violation of examination protocols and has sparked concerns over accountability.

Assam’s Education Minister, Dr. Ranoj Pegu, responded to the situation by stating that the state government would take strict action against three provincialised schools that were also found to be in violation of the rules. FIRs (First Information Reports) are being lodged against the involved institutions, and these schools will be barred from admitting Class XI students for the academic year 2025-26.

Impact on Students and Future Plans

The cancellation of the remaining exams has caused uncertainty among students who were eagerly preparing for their tests. ASSEB has assured students and parents that the situation will be addressed promptly, and a solution will be devised. The board also emphasized that future actions would be in line with decisions made at the upcoming meeting.

The breach of examination protocols and the leak of question papers have raised serious concerns over the security measures in place for the state’s educational system. ASSEB has committed to taking the necessary steps to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.

The cancellation of the remaining Higher Secondary First Year exams for 2025 highlights the seriousness of the question paper leak and the breach of protocols by certain educational institutions. The Assam State School Education Board’s decision to suspend the affiliated schools involved in the scandal demonstrates its commitment to upholding the integrity of the examination process. Further updates and decisions regarding the future course of action will be shared after the board’s meeting on March 24, 2025.
