Historical Significance: Maitri Diwas

December 6, known as Maitri Diwas, is commemorated by India and Bangladesh annually, marking India’s early recognition of Bangladesh as a sovereign nation on December 6, 1971. India was the second country, after Bhutan, to officially recognize Bangladesh’s independence. In March 2021, Prime Minister Modi designated this important date as Bangladesh-India Friendship Day (Moitree Dibosh).
