GT vs SRH IPL 2025 Match Report: Gill’s Class, Shami’s Strikes Power Titans to Victory

SRH vs GT Highlights: In a comprehensive display of class and control, Gujarat Titans secured a commanding 7-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025, chasing down 153 with 20 balls to spare at Hyderabad. The match saw standout performances from Shubman Gill and Mohammed Shami, who played pivotal roles in sealing the Titans’ third consecutive victory.

SRH Struggle After a Promising Start

Opting to bat first, Sunrisers Hyderabad looked to return to their explosive form from earlier in the tournament. However, their innings stuttered after Travis Head fell in the very first over to a brilliant setup by Mohammed Siraj, caught by Sai Sudharsan. Abhishek Sharma tried to hold the innings together with an 18-ball 16, but Siraj’s early double-blow left SRH reeling at 38/2 in the fifth over.

Nitish Kumar Reddy (31 off 34) and Heinrich Klaasen (27 off 19) formed the only meaningful partnership, adding 50 runs in 38 balls. However, they both fell before the 16th over, which triggered a mini-collapse.

Despite a quickfire cameo from Pat Cummins (22* off 9), SRH could only muster 152/8 from their 20 overs. Mohammed Siraj starred with the ball, finishing with 4/17 from his quota. Prasidh Krishna and Sai Kishore chipped in with two wickets each.

Gujarat Titans’ Chase: Gill Anchors, Rutherford Explodes

In reply, Sai Sudharsan fell early to Mohammed Shami, caught for 5, but Shubman Gill remained composed. He played the anchor’s role perfectly, crafting a fluent 61 off 43 balls*, with nine boundaries.

Jos Buttler fell for a duck to Cummins, and GT briefly looked shaky at 16/2, but Washington Sundar, promoted up the order, launched a fierce counterattack with 49 off just 29 balls.

After Sundar’s dismissal, it was Sherfane Rutherford who brought the chase home with a fiery 35 off 16*, striking sixes at will and leaving the SRH bowlers helpless. GT finished at 153/3 in just 16.4 overs, sealing the match with ease.

Mohammed Shami – Powerplay Hero

Shami, who was under the spotlight before the match for his head-to-head against Shubman Gill, lived up to his billing by dismissing Sudharsan early. He finished with 2/24 in 4 overs, maintaining his reputation as a lethal powerplay weapon.

Shami’s discipline allowed Siraj to attack from the other end, and his early strike pushed GT ahead right from the start.

What’s Next?

With this win, Gujarat Titans strengthen their position in the points table, while Sunrisers Hyderabad continue to struggle despite having a power-packed lineup. SRH will need to rethink their batting combinations, especially after losing four on the trot.

GT, on the other hand, look well-balanced even without Rabada and are emerging as one of the title favorites for IPL 2025.
