JSFM Condemns Abduction and Torture of Aamir Warraich, Urges Global Human Rights Action

Karachi | April 10, 2025:
The Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement (JSFM) has issued a strong condemnation against the alleged abduction and torture of human rights lawyer Aamir Warraich, denouncing the incident as a blatant act of state-sponsored repression executed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and military forces.

Warraich, a vocal legal activist, had recently announced plans to lead peaceful civil resistance—including blockades of highways and railways—to protest illegal canal constructions on the Indus River. He was abducted shortly after his announcement, subjected to physical assault, and threatened by intelligence agents, who reportedly demanded he abandon his protest plans and cease advocacy for Sindh’s environmental and constitutional rights.

JSFM Denounces “State-Backed Terrorism”

JSFM Chairman Sohail Abro stated unequivocally:

“This is state terrorism. Aamir Warraich’s only ‘crime’ is his courage to defend Sindh’s land, water, and environmental rights. The ISI and Pakistan Army are using brute force to suppress lawful dissent against unconstitutional projects.”

Vice Chairman Zubair Sindhi and General Secretary Amar Azadi echoed the condemnation, describing the attack as part of a growing trend of militarized oppression targeting lawyers, human rights defenders, and civil society members across Pakistan.

Call for International Intervention

JSFM has appealed to leading international human rights bodies—including the United Nations Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch—urging them to:

  • Publicly condemn the abduction and torture of Aamir Warraich
  • Demand an independent investigation into the involvement of ISI and military intelligence
  • Pressure the Pakistani government to cease repression of peaceful protests and advocacy
  • Recognize Sindh’s environmental and civil resistance movements as legitimate forms of activism

Defending Sindh’s Rights Through Peaceful Resistance

The movement reiterated its unwavering support for Warraich and all activists advocating for Sindh’s constitutional, environmental, and indigenous rights. JSFM also called on citizens and international observers to remain vigilant against the increasing criminalization of dissent in Pakistan.

“We remain committed to peaceful resistance and to seeking justice through global awareness,” the statement concluded. “The rights to land, water, and environment must not be trampled by militarized governance.”
