Akasa Air, a prominent airline, has announced its plan to acquire four additional Boeing 737 Max planes this year, signaling its commitment to expanding its operations. This decision comes on top of the existing order book of 72 Boeing 737 Max aircraft. The airline also revealed its intention to unveil another significant three-digit aircraft order by the end of 2023 during the ongoing Paris Air Show.
Strengthening Expansion Strategy and International Reach
The four new Boeing 737 Max aircraft will bolster Akasa Air’s expansion strategy, particularly in preparation for its forthcoming international operations slated to commence by the end of 2023. The airline aims to strengthen its fleet by adding these planes, taking the total number of ordered aircraft from 72 to 76 over the next four years.
Vinay Dube, the founder and CEO of Akasa Air, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion plans and the potential these new aircraft offer. He highlighted the category-leading features of the 737-8 aircraft, such as its exceptional range, which will be advantageous as the airline ventures into international routes. Dube also emphasized that these aircraft will support the airline’s rapid domestic expansion.
Remarkable Fleet Growth and Future Plans
Akasa Air has already achieved a significant milestone in global aviation history. In less than a year of operations since its inception in August of the previous year, the airline has become the first to reach a fleet size of 19 aircraft. Currently, it operates 19 planes, and the 20th aircraft is scheduled to join the fleet in July.
With a growing fleet, Akasa Air aims to commence international operations by the end of 2023, targeting destinations in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and other potential markets. Discussions with the respective governments are still underway to finalize the selection of destinations.
Akasa Air’s decision to purchase four more Boeing 737 Max aircraft highlights the company’s ambitious plans for international expansion. With a focus on strengthening its fleet and exploring new markets, the airline aims to leverage the advanced capabilities of these aircraft to establish its presence in various regions. The addition of these planes signifies a significant step towards fulfilling its growth objectives in the coming years.
