The annual Amarnath Yatra has commenced with the first batch of pilgrims embarking on their journey to the revered cave shrine. This significant pilgrimage, stretching over 62 days, started from the Baltal base camp in Ganderbal district, Kashmir.
Flagging Off the Journey
The Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal, Shyambir, alongside senior officials from the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board and the police, officially flagged off the first group of pilgrims. The journey involves a 12-kilometer trek from Baltal to the cave shrine, situated at an elevation of about 13,000 feet.
The Route and Arrangements
Pilgrims can choose between two primary routes: the Baltal route, which allows for a one-day round trip, and the traditional Pahalgam route, which takes about three to four days. The Baltal route also offers helicopter services for a quicker transit to Panjtarni and back.
Local Support and Security
The locals play a crucial role in ensuring the pilgrims’ safe passage through the challenging terrain, offering their expertise and services. In addition, stringent security measures have been implemented, with personnel deployed along both routes and new security pickets established.
