As a result of the increase in COVID-19 cases in India, Amazon India has postpone its annual Prime Day sales in India. COVID-19’s second wave has been devastating in the country. The virus has infected more than 4 lakhs and left thousands of people dead. Because of the rising cases, the country lacks hospital beds and oxygen cylinders. In the meantime, large technology companies such as Amazon, Google have extended their support to the country through aviation medical equipment and more.
According to the CNBC report, in the face of rising COVID cases, Amazon postponed sales in India and Canada. The company said the annual sales in both countries were stopped but did not announce a new date. Amazon sells two-day Prime Day sales annually to attract new Prime subscribers. During the sale, Amazon offers Prime members numerous discounts, including smartphones, laptops and more. In addition, the company uses sales to obtain new Prime members.
During the sale, Prime members can benefit from exclusive discounts on products and can also receive their order in less than two days. But this year’s situation is different, since nearly half the country is locked down because of the coronavirus and the e-commerce platforms only provide essential goods.
Amazon Sale Schedule
The sale on Prime Day is usually in July, but the coronavirus pandemic this time would not occur on a scheduled date. In 2020, Amazon hosted Prime Day sales in the United States and several other countries in October. Following the pandemic, several smartphone firms also postponed their launch events.
Realme was scheduled to launch a smartphone flagship on 4 May, but the company will postpone launches, anniversary celebrations as CEO Madhav Sheth has announced that the country is handling the deadly viruses. At the launch event on May 4th, the company was expected to launch Realme X7 Max and 43-inch 4K TV, but it was not done.
“Then Realme decided after careful consideration to postpone the launch of the upcoming smartphone and AIoT products together with anniversary celebration. Let us focus on contributing as much as possible in these difficult times. Stay home, stay strong! Stay strong! We’re going to be back soon,” tweeted Madhav.
