The Indian women’s cricket team has appointed Nooshin Al Khadeer as the interim head coach for their upcoming tour of Bangladesh. This decision comes after the team has been without a head coach since Ramesh Powar stepped down from the role. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to officially announce a permanent head coach.
Tour Details
The Indian women’s team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, is preparing for a three-match ODI series and as many T20Is against Bangladesh. The tour is scheduled to start with the first ODI on July 9, 2023.
Nooshin Al Khadeer’s Credentials
Nooshin Al Khadeer, a former India cricketer, has a track record as a successful coach. She is currently the head coach of the Railways side in the domestic circuit. Under her coaching, the India A side emerged as champions in the ACC Emerging Asia Cup 2023, held in Hong Kong.
Past Successes
Nooshin Al Khadeer was also in charge of the India U-19 team during the Women’s U19 World Cup held in South Africa in January 2023. Under her guidance, the team, led by Shafali Verma, secured victory, showcasing her coaching abilities.
Interim Role
While there have been media reports suggesting Amol Muzumdar could be handed the full-time responsibility, the official announcement is yet to be made. In the meantime, Nooshin Al Khadeer will take on the interim head coach role for the India-Bangladesh series.
Upcoming Schedule
The Indian women’s team is set to assemble in Mumbai on July 5 before departing for Bangladesh on July 6, gearing up for the series under the guidance of Nooshin Al Khadeer.
