Bollywood actor Chrisann Pereira, who was arrested on April 1st and held in a Sharjah jail on allegations of drug possession, has been released. According to reports, the actor was allegedly framed in a narcotics case and spent nearly a month in detention before her release on Wednesday evening. Joint Commissioner of Police (crime) Lakhmi Gautam stated that Pereira is expected to return to India within 48 hours.
Investigation into the case revealed that the main accused, Anthony Paul and Rajesh Bobate, were arrested on April 24th by the Crime Branch. The complete report related to the arrest and investigation of the case was shared with the Ministry of External Affairs. The Ministry, in turn, shared the information with the Government of the United Arab Emirates and the Drugs Information Agency.
Further investigation revealed that due to mutual hostility, accused Anthony along with another accused Rajesh Bobate (Ravi) sent Chrisann to Sharjah in the name of auditioning for an International Web Series. She was then given a memento containing drugs, after which she was arrested in Sharjah.
On April 25th, the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested two persons for allegedly framing actor Chrisann Pereira in a narcotics case by giving her a memento that had drugs hidden in it and asking her to deliver it to someone in Sharjah. The accused, bakery owner Anthony Paul and his friend Rajesh Borate, had reportedly posed as talent manager Ravi and approached the actor.
Chrisann Pereira, who has previously worked in films such as ‘Sadak 2’ and ‘Batla House’, had been in a Sharjah prison since April 1st. Her release has brought relief to her family and friends.
