In a recent incident, a bridge over the Mindhola River in Vyara, Gujarat, collapsed, resulting in significant consequences for the surrounding area. The bridge served as a crucial connection between the villages of Maipur and Degama in the Tapi district of Gujarat. The collapse has had a severe impact on approximately 15 villages in the vicinity, according to reports from ANI.
Investigation Initiated to Determine the Cause of the Bridge Collapse
The collapse of the bridge has prompted an immediate response from authorities. Executive Engineer Nirav Rathod stated that the construction of the bridge began in 2021 at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore. In light of the incident, experts will conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain the precise cause of the bridge’s collapse.
Similar Incident in Bhagalpur District Raises Concerns
This incident in Gujarat is not an isolated occurrence. Another bridge, under construction and known as the Aguwani-Sultanganj bridge, collapsed over the Ganga river in Bhagalpur district on June 4. The bridge was being constructed to connect Bhagalpur and Khagaria. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar responded to the collapse, emphasizing that strict action would be taken against those responsible. He revealed that the same bridge had experienced a collapse the previous year, indicating flaws in the construction process as the likely cause.
As investigations continue into these bridge collapses, concerns have been raised regarding the quality of construction and the adherence to safety protocols. These incidents underscore the importance of thorough inspections, proper construction practices, and effective oversight to prevent such accidents and ensure the safety of infrastructure projects.
