Chhattisgarh Sees 1,314 Naxal Surrenders as CM Declares ‘Endgame’ for Insurgency

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has declared that Naxalism is on its last breath in the state, citing the surrender of 1,314 Naxalites and a sharp rise in public trust under his government’s rehabilitation-driven strategy.

Speaking at the ‘Vichaar for Viksit Chhattisgarh’ conclave hosted by ANI, the CM credited his administration’s focused efforts, including housing, skill development, and employment initiatives, for bringing former insurgents back into the mainstream.

Mass Surrenders & Supportive Policies

“As soon as our government came, we told the Naxalites to drop bullets and join the mainstream,” CM Sai said.

He revealed that nearly 15,000 homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) have been allocated for surrendered Naxals. In addition, many are receiving training under skill development schemes to become job-ready.

  • 15,000 homes sanctioned under PMAY
  • Third and fourth-grade government jobs offered to qualified surrendering Naxals
  • Accommodation at district HQs for those who renounce arms

The state has also deputed Home Minister Vijay Sharma to study successful rehabilitation models in other states like Assam.

359 Hardcore Naxals Killed in 1.5 Years

Sai emphasized that alongside rehabilitation, the state’s security forces are taking firm action against those who continue violent activities. In the last 18 months, over 359 Naxals with high bounties have been killed in coordinated anti-insurgency operations.

“Very few of them are left now… The resolution of the Union Home Minister will be fulfilled,” CM Sai said, referring to the Centre’s goal of eliminating Left-Wing Extremism.

Rebuilding Trust: From Fear to Faith

Acknowledging the deep-rooted fear Naxal groups once instilled, the CM said things are changing fast.

“Earlier, people trusted Naxals more than the government. Today, public trust in us is growing steadily.”

Through schemes like ‘Niyad Nellanar Yojana’ (Your Beautiful Village) and the strategic expansion of security camps, the government is restoring governance in remote areas.

He added that villages within a 5 km radius of new security camps are now seeing Naxalites flee rather than take control.

A Balanced Approach: Force and Fairness

Chhattisgarh’s evolving model to curb Naxalism is multi-pronged:

  • Use of force against hardened rebels
  • Incentives and integration for those who surrender
  • Community development in vulnerable tribal areas
  • Psychological shift from fear to hope among civilians

This approach reflects a fusion of security operations with social inclusion, which the government believes is key to long-term peace in the Red Corridor.

A Defining Phase in Chhattisgarh’s Anti-Naxal History

With 1,314 surrenders and 359 high-value targets neutralized, Chhattisgarh under CM Vishnu Deo Sai is making historic strides in ending Naxal insurgency.

While challenges remain in deeply forested zones, Sai’s message is clear: “Guns must be replaced by growth.” His government’s mix of firmness, rehabilitation, and welfare signals a potential turning point in India’s decades-long battle against Left-Wing Extremism.
