Cody Rhodes returned to WWE RAW after a six-year absence and faced Kevin Owens in a match in which he used little assistance from The Rock’s mother. Cody Rhodes and KO engaged in a dark match after the show had ended. Both superstars had an entertaining singles match, which included a brawl near the announcement desk at one point. Cody took Kevin Owens close to the barricade during their match and then used a little help from a fan.
The fan turned out to be Ata Johnson, The Rock’s mother. Cody punched Kevin Owens while she held him from behind. Rhodes and Ms. Johnson exchanged hugs as well. Although it was a brief interaction, the WWE Universe embraced the overall concept. Fans appreciated Owens’ not-so-subtle reference to his former Pro Wrestling Guerrilla colleagues.
Overall, it was a fantastic match that ended with Cody Rhodes taking the victory. Earlier in the evening, The American Nightmare introduced RAW with a promo in which he discussed his absence and his goals now that he has returned. He is determined to win the company’s most prestigious championship in order to honour his father, Dusty Rhodes’ legacy.
On RAW, he also ran into Seth Rollins, but both superstars simply shook hands as a sign of mutual respect.
