The TMC described Shah’s comments as “distasteful and insensitive” and demanded his response on the Manipur violence as well. TMC spokesperson Derek O’Brien accused the BJP of prioritizing their voting percentage over showing compassion to the grieving families affected by the violence.
Amit Shah’s Controversial Tweet and TMC’s Response
Amit Shah, in a tweet, claimed that even the “bloodcurdling violence in West Bengal” could not hinder the BJP’s “stellar performance” in the panchayat elections. He highlighted the increase in the BJP’s seat tally, indicating a rise in people’s trust. Derek O’Brien responded to Shah’s tweet, labeling his remarks as “distasteful and insensitive.” O’Brien further questioned Shah’s priorities and criticized him for not showing compassion to the affected families.
TMC Accuses BJP of Resorting to Dirty Tricks
The TMC issued an official statement, accusing the BJP of resorting to dirty tricks and unleashing violence on ruling party workers after failing in the state. According to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, around 19 people lost their lives in incidents related to the poll, with most of them belonging to her party. The TMC holds the BJP responsible for the violence and has condemned their actions.
BJP Spokesperson Defends Amit Shah’s Remarks
BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya defended Amit Shah’s remarks, stating that the TMC’s reaction stems from their frustration over the truth being exposed. Bhattacharya claimed that the entire country witnessed the violence and anarchy unleashed by the TMC during the polls, which continued even after the elections were over.
