In a recent development, the Delhi government has decided to defer the implementation of the odd-even car rationing scheme in the national capital. This decision comes as a response to the noticeable improvement in air quality, attributed to recent rains, as reported by PTI.
Weather Change and Rain Improve Air Quality
Addressing the media in a press conference, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai explained the government’s decision in light of the changing weather conditions. Rai stated, “Delhi’s pollution had reached the ‘severe’ category, but with the change in weather and the occurrence of rain, the pollution situation has significantly improved. The Air Quality Index (AQI) has dropped to below 300, a considerable improvement from the previous level of 450.”
Postponement of Odd-Even Plan
As a result of the improved air quality, the odd-even plan, originally scheduled to be implemented from November 13 to 20, has now been postponed. Minister Rai emphasized that the government will monitor the situation closely and reassess after the Diwali celebrations.
This decision reflects the government’s responsiveness to the dynamic environmental conditions and its commitment to balancing effective pollution control measures with the convenience of the public.
