Delhi Police Seize Drugs Worth Over Rs 85 Crore and Arrest Six People in Two Operations
The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested six people, including a woman, in two separate operations, and recovered drugs worth over Rs 85 crore in the international market. The first operation was conducted on April 23, in which the police arrested Lakhpat Singh and Suresh, who were going to Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar in their truck to supply opium to one of Chand’s contacts. Officials seized a total of 5.31 kg of opium from Lakhpat and 96.31 kg of opium hidden between 682 gunny bags containing coconuts from the truck.
Further Operations
After the first operation, the police sent a team to Kichha in Uttarakhand to arrest Dal Chand, the key member of the cartel, based on the information provided by the arrested individuals. Following that, Prakash Puri, another key member, was arrested from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, and Rs 7.5 lakh was seized from his house. According to the police, Chand had revealed that he used to supply contraband to various local contacts in Delhi/NCR, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh.
Arrested Individuals
The arrested individuals have been identified as Lakhpat Singh (43), Suresh (24), Prakash Puri (39), Dal Chand (36), Taslima Begum (38), and Ravi Prakash (34), a resident of Delhi. All of them are residents of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Assam, respectively. Lakhpat Singh confessed to being involved in drug trafficking for the last five to six years and procured the recovered opium from Jharkhand-based suppliers on the directions of Chand. The police also seized Rs 7.5 lakh hawala money in the exercise.
