The Election Commission (EC) has ordered the removal of three controversial posts by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Chhattisgarh. The posts, criticized for their communal nature, were deemed a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
The EC’s decision followed several complaints that highlighted the posts’ potential to incite division among different religious communities. This intervention reflects the EC’s commitment to maintaining a fair electoral process free from communal tensions.
The opposition, including the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has condemned the BJP’s actions, accusing them of using divisive tactics to influence voters. The AAP has announced plans to approach the EC regarding additional derogatory posts by BJP members, suggesting a pattern of inflammatory content.
This incident occurs amid broader communal tensions in Chhattisgarh. Recently, members of the BJP and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) called for an economic boycott of Muslims and Christians following violent clashes in the Bemetara district. The EC’s swift action aims to curb such attempts to disturb communal harmony during the election period.
By removing these posts, the EC seeks to ensure a peaceful and unbiased election environment, upholding the integrity of the democratic process.
