Former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was admitted to NIMS Hospital in Neyyattinkara with a high fever and a chest infection. On Monday, the leader of Congress tested positive for pneumonia as well.
“Kerala | Ex-CM Oommen Chandy admitted last night to NIMS hospital, Neyyattinkara,” ANI reports. “The ex-CM is in the hospital with a high fever and a diagnosis of slight pneumonia,” his son, Facebook user Chandy Oommen, wrote.
The 79-year-old politician tested positive after returning from Germany. Chandy traveled to Germany for top-tier cancer treatment.
However, there was some disagreement about the quality of Chandy’s medical care. Despite being in poor health, the Congress leader was forced to respond to the rumors on social media.
On Monday, a relative of Oomeen Chandy petitioned Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, alleging that Chandy’s wife and son were denying him access to modern medical treatment. He had no choice but to accept the standard medical care on offer. The petition argued that the state should intervene to settle the dispute.
However, Chandy’s son Chandy Oommen clarified the situation on social media. The former Prime Minister posted a message on his son’s social media account.
Meanwhile, former Defense Minister AK Antony paid Chandy a visit. Another topic he reportedly discussed was the state’s political climate.
Oommen Chandy served as Kerala’s Chief Minister twice (2004–2006 and 2011–2016). In addition, he was the leader of the Opposition Party from 2006 to 2011. He is currently a member of the Working Committee of the Congress.
