The Congress party has released its fourth list of candidates for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections, which will take place in 2023. The list includes seven candidates, among them former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar. He has been granted a ticket to contest from the Hubli-Dharwad-Central constituency.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, and the party has so far announced candidates for 209 out of 224 assembly seats in the state. The first list of 124 candidates was announced prior to the announcement of the election schedule by the Election Commission. The party has been vocal in its criticism of the BJP, accusing the party of mistreating its leaders.

Former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said that the BJP should not have denied a ticket to senior leader Laxman Savadi, who has since left the party. He added that Savadi should be treated with due respect, and that the Congress party would welcome him. Karnataka Congress Chief D K Shivakumar echoed these sentiments, saying that the BJP had humiliated Savadi.
Meanwhile, the BJP has criticized Congress for granting a ticket to Savadi, stating that he would regret his decision. Arun Singh, BJP Karnataka in-charge, stated that even after losing the election, the BJP had made Savadi the Deputy CM and MLC. He added that Savadi’s decision to join a party with internal divisions was a mistake.
Congress’s decision to grant a ticket to Shettar is expected to add momentum to the party’s campaign, as the former CM is a well-known political figure in Karnataka. His inclusion in the candidate list is seen as a move to strengthen the Congress’s position in the region.
