Greta Gerwig, an actor and filmmaker, officially signed “Barbie” with Margot Robbie as the world-renowned Mattel doll.
Gerwig signed the project in 2019 with her film maker partner, Noah Baumback. After a successful first appearance of “Lady Bird” and its “Little Women” follow-up, it was reported that she was considering directing at the time.
Variety has reported that in the beginning of 2022 at its Leavesden Studios in London, the Warner Bros comedy produced from Robbie via his banner Lucky Chaps will begin production.
Robbie also confirmed recently that Gerwig is going to lead the project during her August 2021 interview with Vogue UK covers.
