Harsh Pokharna’s Startup Journey: From Flipkart to OkCredit’s Success

Bengaluru-based entrepreneur Harsh Pokharna recently shared his inspiring journey of building OkCredit, a widely used digital bookkeeping platform. From quitting a high-paying job at Flipkart to navigating early startup failures, his path has been anything but easy.
Key Highlights:
From Flipkart to Entrepreneurship: A Risky Leap

Harsh Pokharna, an IIT Kanpur graduate with a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering, started his career as a graduate trainee at Flipkart. However, his passion for entrepreneurship led him to quit the lucrative position and venture into the startup ecosystem.
Despite initial ambitions of making quick money, Pokharna soon realized that building a successful startup is a long-term endeavor. In his social media post, he candidly admitted, “Startups don’t bring immediate success. This is not a get-rich-quick plan; it’s a long-term game.”
Overcoming Early Failures and Struggles:

Harsh faced multiple setbacks in the early stages of his entrepreneurial journey. Over two years, he experimented with three different business ideas, but none gained traction. With his savings depleting, he had to work as a freelancer to stay financially afloat while continuing to chase his dream.
Despite these struggles, he remained determined. “Around me, founders were raising millions of dollars for capital. It appeared simple. But the truth? I tried three different ideas and failed for the first two years. I had to work as a freelancer to make ends meet after spending all of my money,” Pokharna shared.
Building OkCredit: A Game-Changer for MSMEs
In 2017, Harsh co-founded OkCredit, a digital bookkeeping platform tailored for Indian MSMEs. The platform simplifies account management by digitizing credit transactions, promoting financial transparency, and improving cash flow for small business owners.
With millions of active users, OkCredit has gained significant traction, transforming how MSMEs manage their finances. The startup has been backed by leading investors such as Y Combinator and Tiger Global, further driving its mission of financial inclusion and digital transformation in India.
Inspiration for Aspiring Entrepreneurs:

Harsh’s story has resonated with many aspiring entrepreneurs who have faced similar struggles. Users on social media expressed admiration for his perseverance:
- “Our situation is somewhat similar, but we lack mentorship and financial support.”
- “Your story and resilience inspire me to never give up.”
- “Thank you for sharing these real insights and learnings.”
Harsh’s experience underscores a valuable lesson: true startup success takes time, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to solving real-world problems.
Harsh Pokharna’s journey from quitting Flipkart to building OkCredit is a testament to the perseverance required in entrepreneurship. His experiences offer a dose of reality to aspiring founders—success doesn’t happen overnight, but with dedication and adaptability, it is achievable. As he rightly said, “Still a long way to go.”
