“Haryana Health Minister Orders Transfer Of Overweight Police Personnel To Police Lines”

Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij issued an order on Friday, stating that overweight police officers and personnel will be transferred to police lines. This decision aims to prioritize the fitness of police officers in the state. The move follows a similar initiative implemented in Assam.
Transfer of Overweight Police Personnel to Police Lines

Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij issued an order mandating the transfer of overweight police officers and personnel to police lines within the state. The objective is to emphasize the importance of fitness among police officers. The transferred personnel will have the opportunity to rejoin duty after achieving the required fitness through exercise.
Assam’s Initiative and Fitness Survey
The decision in Haryana aligns with a similar initiative implemented in Assam. In Assam, the Director General of Police (DGP), Gyanendra Pratap Singh, announced a fitness survey for police personnel, including Indian Police Service (IPS) and Assam Police Service (APS) officers. Those found “unfit” in the survey will be offered voluntary retirement (VRS) from service.
Timeframe and BMI Assessment
In Assam, the personnel will have three months to work on their fitness. After this period, their Body Mass Index (BMI) will be recorded to assess their progress. The goal is to encourage police personnel to reduce their weight and improve their fitness levels. Exceptions will be made for those with genuine medical reasons like hypothyroidism.
VRS for Habitual Drinkers in Assam
Last month, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that around 300 Assam Police personnel who were “habitual drinkers” would be offered voluntary retirement (VRS).
These initiatives aim to ensure the overall fitness and well-being of police officers, contributing to their effectiveness in maintaining law and order.
