Helicopter transporting construction material for India-funded hydel project crashes in Nepal
A helicopter operated by Simrik Air crashed in the Sankhuwasabha district of Nepal while transporting construction material for India-funded Arun-III Hydel project. The pilot was safe. The crash occurred on Friday, May 5, 2023. The incident is being investigated by the Sankhuwasabha District Police Office. No further information about the crash has been released yet.
Crashes in recent years
This incident comes after the recent crash of an Army advanced light helicopter (ALH) in the remote Marwah area of Jammu and Kashmir’s rugged Kishtwar district, killing a mechanic and wounding two pilots. In March 2022, two pilots were killed when an Army aviation Cheetah helicopter crashed while conducting an operational sortie near Bomdila in Arunachal Pradesh. According to the administration, 42 Indian armed services personnel have been killed in 45 aircraft and helicopter crashes in the previous five years. Army Commander Northern Command Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi paid tribute to CFN (Avn Tech) Pabballa Anil, who perished in the helicopter crash.
