Mumbai, June 7: The latest entry in Bollywood’s hit comedy franchise has stormed into cinemas with a bang. Housefull 5, headlined by Akshay Kumar, has posted a staggering ₹23 crore collection on its opening day—making it one of the actor’s biggest starts in recent years, though not the absolute highest in his career.

Akshay Kumar Delivers Yet Another Big Opener

Despite not topping his own record, the film’s Day 1 figures still speak volumes. To put it in perspective, Mission Mangal remains Akshay’s biggest first-day hit, raking in over ₹29 crore. Sooryavanshi and Gold follow closely behind with ₹26.29 crore and ₹25.25 crore respectively.

Still, Housefull 5 surpasses several of his recent releases and even beats its predecessor, Housefull 4, which had collected just over ₹19 crore on its first day back in 2019. That alone is a sign of strong audience turnout and enduring franchise loyalty.

Two Versions, Two Climaxes—A Bold Move That Paid Off

In an unconventional move, the filmmakers released two versions of the film—Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B—each offering a different ending. This twist was not only a talking point in promotions but also a draw at the box office, with fans curious to see both takes on the conclusion.

Such storytelling experiments are rare in mainstream Hindi cinema, and by the looks of it, this risk struck the right chord with moviegoers.

Advance Bookings Pointed to a Promising Start

According to trade reports, over 45,000 tickets were booked in just a day and a half before the release, generating nearly ₹5 crore in advance sales. Those early numbers hinted at a strong Day 1, and the film didn’t disappoint.

The wide release strategy also played a crucial role. With 5,000 screens across India showcasing the film, Housefull 5 got the scale it needed to maximize viewership right from the get-go.

Familiar Faces, Comic Timing, and Mass Appeal

It’s no secret that audiences come to a Housefull film knowing exactly what to expect—over-the-top comedy, mistaken identities, extravagant sets, and chaos that somehow ties up in the end. This fifth installment follows that recipe with confidence.

Starring Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, and Akshay in lead roles, the film leans on its ensemble cast and time-tested humor to bring in the laughs. And clearly, it’s working—for now.

The film also has the advantage of minimal direct competition this week, which could further boost its performance over Saturday and Sunday.

For Bollywood exhibitors and producers, the film’s opening is a much-needed morale booster. Big-scale comedies had taken a back seat lately, with thrillers and biopics dominating screens.
