Housefull 5 Gets U/A Certificate After CBFC Edits; Makers Clear Two Versions with Alternate Endings

CBFC trims dialogues and sensual visuals in Housefull 5 while clearing two theatrical versions with different climaxes — a first for Bollywood.

The Housefull franchise has always been about over-the-top gags, starry chaos, and punchline-packed scripts. But this time, Housefull 5 is stirring the pot even before it hits the theatres — thanks to a rare move by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and a never-before-seen release strategy. The Akshay Kumar-led comedy caper has been awarded a U/A certificate, but not before undergoing some trimming.

From “champagne coming” to suggestive visuals and dialogues, CBFC had notes. But what’s making more noise is that the film will release in two versions, Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B, each with a different climax. Yes, you read that right — a twin-ending Bollywood release is happening, and fans are already bookmarking showtimes to catch both.

What CBFC Changed

According to CBFC documents, the board has made a total of 11 seconds worth of edits to the film. These include:

  • Replacement of the word “champagne coming” with a milder alternative.
  • Alterations to certain sensual visuals deemed too suggestive for a U/A audience.
  • Edits in dialogues, including changing the word “item” and muting or modifying the word “haram”.

These tweaks were done to make the film more palatable for a wider audience, especially families who form a huge chunk of Housefull’s loyal fanbase. It’s not the first time the franchise has flirted with double entendres and bold humour — but clearly, the board is playing it safe in 2025.

The changes are minor in terms of screen time but reflect a growing scrutiny on big-ticket entertainers, especially those involving ensemble casts and pan-India reach.

Two Endings, Two Certificates

Now here’s where Housefull 5 truly pulls a wild card. The makers, led by producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Tarun Mansukhani, have chosen to release the film in two versions: one as Housefull 5A, and the other as Housefull 5B.

Each version comes with a separate censor certificate and contains a different climax, making this a historic move in Indian cinema. While Hollywood has dabbled in alternate endings for home releases or director’s cuts, this is the first time a mainstream Hindi film is offering simultaneous theatrical versions with alternate conclusions.

It’s a bold experiment — some say genius, others call it a gimmick. But if early fan chatter online is anything to go by, the gamble might just pay off. Moviegoers are already planning double-watches, hoping to spot easter eggs and storyline branches that split.

Star Cast That Screams ‘Housefull’

With 19 actors on board, Housefull 5 might just be the busiest comedy ever made. The film sees Akshay Kumar returning to his comedy turf, backed by longtime co-star Riteish Deshmukh and the return of Abhishek Bachchan. The female front is equally power-packed with Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, and Nargis Fakhri bringing the glam quotient.

Veteran heavyweights like Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, and Nana Patekar add gravitas (and comic chaos), while fan-favourites Chunky Pandey, Johnny Lever, and Shreyas Talpade are set to tickle funny bones. The film also marks a comeback for Fardeen Khan and features Chitrangada Singh, Dino Morea, and others in pivotal roles.

With such a mammoth cast, the film doesn’t shy away from ensemble madness. Expect triple misunderstandings, mistaken identities, and grand scale humour on a cruise that spans London, France, and Spain.

Filmed on a Floating Setpiece

Housefull 5 was primarily shot on a lavish cruise ship, which serves as the central set for the film’s antics. The floating backdrop lends itself to larger-than-life sequences — dance numbers on the deck, dramatic exits with the Eiffel Tower in the background, and international mishaps that scream classic Housefull.

The locations add a dollop of international flair, from cobbled Parisian alleys to sun-soaked Spanish beaches. It’s spectacle and slapstick, fused into a travel comedy.

Music and Visual Buzz

Musically, Housefull 5 has already struck a chord with fans. Tracks like “Laal Pari” and “Dil-e-Nadaan” are climbing charts fast, with the former becoming a go-to pick on reels and dance challenges.

The trailer, which dropped earlier this month, clocked over 25 million views within 48 hours and sparked meme-fests on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram. One popular meme reads, “Me trying to keep up with the cast of Housefull 5 — I need a flowchart.”

The wardrobe department hasn’t gone unnoticed either. From Sonam Bajwa’s sleek gowns to Riteish Deshmukh’s all-gold blazer moment, fashion blogs are busy decoding who wore what and why.

Box Office Stakes and Fan Fever

Releasing on 6 June 2025, the film is positioned as a major summer entertainer, going up against a lean box office week — a calculated move to maximise screens and repeat viewership.

Trade analysts are optimistic. Given the built-in fanbase of the franchise and the curiosity around the dual versions, early projections suggest a strong opening weekend.

Meanwhile, fans on social media are buzzing with theories about what the two endings could be. One user wrote, “Imagine one ending has Chunky Pandey as the hero. I’m watching both just to see that happen.” Another joked, “Housefull 5 is now a multiverse film. MCU who?”

Final Word

Between CBFC trims, dual climaxes, and an insanely starry cast, Housefull 5 isn’t just another sequel — it’s a pop culture event. It walks the tightrope between massy comedy and modern experimentation, all while keeping the punchlines flying and the champagne (quietly) coming.

Come June 6, fans will have a decision to make — 5A or 5B. Or maybe, just do both.
