The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a fresh spell ofrainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the coming days. This weather phenomenon is attributed to a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. The IMD also warns of thunderstorms occurring at one or two places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
Cyclonic Circulation Leads To Rainfall and Thunderstorms

The cyclonic circulation that was observed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and its vicinity on Friday has now shifted to the central parts of the south Bay of Bengal and the adjoining central Bay of Bengal, approximately between 4.5 and 5.8 kilometers above mean sea level. The lower tropospheric levels are experiencing light to moderate westerlies.
Expected Weather Conditions
As a result of this cyclonic circulation, parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to witness light to moderate rain coupled with thunderstorms and lightning. In specific regions such as Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Pudukottai districts of Tamil Nadu, as well as Puducherry and Karaikal areas, heavy rainfall is anticipated to occur at one or two places.
Duration of Rainfall
The IMD predicts that the rainfall is expected to continue till July 5, affecting certain regions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
Weather Forecast For Chennai
In Chennai, the sky condition is expected to be partly cloudy, with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in certain areas. The maximum temperature is projected to be around 37 °C, while the minimum temperature is likely to hover around 27-28 °C.
Monsoon Intensifies in Kerala
Apart from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the monsoon has intensified in Kerala, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state. The IMD has issued a yellow alert in four districts, including Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod, as the state is expected to experience rainfall until Monday.
