PM Modi Convenes High-Level Security Meeting Amid Escalating India-Pakistan Tensions

Amid escalating tensions with Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level security meeting with top defense officials to assess the situation and strategize India's response.

India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate: PM Modi Holds Critical Security Meeting

Amid escalating tensions with Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level security meeting at his residence in New Delhi on May 10, 2025. The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.

This meeting followed India’s retaliatory strikes on four Pakistani airbases in response to Pakistan’s attacks on 26 Indian locations.

Operation Sindoor and Subsequent Developments

The recent escalation began with a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. India attributed the attack to Pakistan-based militants and launched “Operation Sindoor,” targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan.

In retaliation, Pakistan conducted Operation Bunyan Ul Marsoos, targeting Indian military installations. The ensuing conflict saw missile and drone attacks from both sides, leading to significant casualties and damage.

A U.S.-brokered ceasefire was announced on May 10, but both nations accused each other of violations within hours.

International Mediation and Ceasefire Fragility

The United States, with President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Vice President JD Vance, played a pivotal role in mediating the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.

Despite the ceasefire, reports of continued hostilities and mutual accusations have raised concerns about the fragility of the agreement. Explosions and gunfire were reported in Indian-administered Kashmir, and both nations have accused each other of ceasefire violations.

What Lies Ahead

The situation between India and Pakistan remains tense, with both nations on high alert. The international community continues to urge restraint and dialogue to prevent further escalation. The effectiveness of the ceasefire and the potential for lasting peace depend on the commitment of both nations to uphold the agreement and engage in constructive dialogue.
