India witnessed a decrease in its active Covid-19 caseload as it recorded 656 new cases in the past 24 hours. The total active tally now stands at 13,037, reflecting a positive trend.
Death Toll and Vaccination Drive
The death toll due to Covid-19 has risen by 12, reaching a total of 5,31,790. Among the reported deaths, three were reconciled by Kerala. The cumulative Covid case tally in India has reached 4.49 crore (4,49,82,131). The recovery rate stands at an impressive 98.79%, with a total of 4,44,37,304 recoveries. The case fatality rate remains low at 1.18%.
The nationwide vaccination drive continues to progress, with 220.66 crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine administered so far, according to the health ministry’s website.
Covid-19 Situation in Maharashtra
Maharashtra, one of the most affected states in India, reported 22 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the state’s total tally to 81,68,425. The death toll in the state increased by three, reaching 1,48,545. Currently, Maharashtra has 809 active cases. The Mumbai circle reported the highest number of fresh cases, followed by the Pune and Nashik circles. Several other circles, including Akola, Aurangabad, Amaravati, Kolhapur, Latur, and Nagpur, did not report any new cases.
