Officials from the Indian Army and other security agencies have conducted a comprehensive security review along the crucial 270-km Jammu-Srinagar national highway in preparation for the upcoming G20 meeting in Jammu and Kashmir. The review aimed to bolster security measures in light of intelligence inputs regarding potential terrorist threats.
Strengthened Security Arrangements
Security has been enhanced across Jammu and Kashmir following the intelligence inputs, which suggest the possibility of terrorist strikes before or during the G20 meeting. The anti-infiltration grid along the borders has been reinforced, along with the security of vital installations such as railway stations and bus stands. Additional checkpoints have been set up along highways, cities, and towns to deter any potential terrorist attempts.
Coordinated Response and High-Level Meeting
To fine-tune the response to potential security scenarios, a table-top exercise was conducted by the Indian Army and security agencies in Ramban. A brigadier-level officer led a high-level meeting with senior police and CRPF officers at Ramban to review security arrangements along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, which serves as the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country.
Multi-Tier Security Deployment
To ensure comprehensive security coverage, a multi-tier security setup involving the Indian Army, Border Security Force, police, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), along with Village Defence Committees, has been activated along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC).
Tightened Security at Jammu Railway Station
Security measures have been tightened at Jammu railway station, with all agencies directed to work closely and maintain vigilance to thwart any attempts by anti-national elements to disrupt the proceedings. Officers of the Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force have been instructed to intensify patrolling in sensitive areas of the railway station.
The Indian Army’s efforts to ensure the safety and security of the G20 meeting attendees and the region as a whole reflect the commitment to counter potential security threats effectively.
