The Indian Mission in China took to social media on Sunday to share a series of updates highlighting its efforts to support and engage with the Indian community in China. The post on X (formerly Twitter) covered a range of initiatives, from the vibrant celebrations of Gudi Padwa with the Marathi community to the provision of emergency consular relief and outreach efforts to improve services for Indian nationals.
Key Highlights:
Gudi Padwa Celebrations with the Marathi Community
The Indian Mission in China is gearing up for the vibrant celebration of Gudi Padwa, a major Hindu festival marking the start of the traditional New Year, with the Marathi community in China. The festival, which holds great significance for the people of Maharashtra and Goa, will be celebrated with much enthusiasm. Gudi Padwa derives its name from two key words: ‘gudi,’ referring to the flag of Lord Brahma, and ‘padwa,’ which marks the first day of the moon’s phase.

This occasion also signifies the arrival of the warmer spring season. Gudi Padwa celebrations include colourful floor decorations, a special flag (gudi) garlanded with flowers and mango and neem leaves, and topped with upturned silver or copper vessels. The festivities often feature street processions, dance performances, and delicious foods such as shrikhand puri.
In addition, the festival coincides with other regional celebrations across India, including Chaitra Navratri, Sajibu Cheiraoba, Navreh, Cheti Chand, and Ugadi, further bringing together diverse Indian traditions.
Emergency Consular Relief for Indian Citizen H Ansari

Alongside the festival preparations, the Indian Mission in China also provided emergency consular relief to Indian citizen H Ansari, ensuring his safe return to India to be with his family during the festive season. The consulate’s prompt assistance in this matter was greatly appreciated by the individual and his loved ones, allowing him to reunite with his family during an important time of the year.
Consul General’s Visit to YIWU to Strengthen Community Relations
In another significant update, Consul General Pratik Mathur visited YIWU, a major global trade hub in Eastern China, where he met with members of the Indian community. The visit aimed to enhance engagement and improve consular services for Indian nationals in the region.
In the post shared on X, the Indian Mission stated, “Building a New India! Sabka Saath Sabka Vikaas Sabkaa Vishwaas. Yet another busy weekend with advance Gudi Padwaa celebrations with the dynamic Maharashtrian community in #Shanghai; providing emergency consular relief to Indian citizen Shri H.
