Indian Railways Slashes Fares For AC Chair Car And Executive Classes, Including Vande Bharat Train

The Railway Board has announced a reduction in fares for AC chair cars and executive classes on all trains, including Vande Bharat, as well as those with Anubhuti and Vistadome coaches. The fares will be reduced by up to 25 percent, according to a Railway Board order. The actual discount will depend on the occupancy levels, and the fares will also be influenced by the prices of competitive modes of transport.

Discounted Fare Scheme for AC Seating Accommodation

Indian Railways has issued an order to reduce fares by up to 25% for AC chair cars and executive classes in all trains, including Vande Bharat. The discount will be determined based on occupancy levels and will consider competitive transport prices. This move aims to maximize accommodation utilization and provide cost-effective travel options for passengers.

To maximize accommodation utilization, the Ministry of Railways has authorized the principal chief commercial managers of railway zones to introduce discounted fare schemes for trains with AC seating. This scheme will be applicable in AC chair car and executive classes of all trains having AC seating accommodation, including Anubhuti and Vistadome coaches, as stated in the Railway Board order.

Discount Criteria and Implementation

The discount will be up to a maximum of 25 percent on the basic fare. Additional charges like reservation charge, super fast surcharge, GST, etc., will be levied separately. The discount may be provided in any or all classes based on the occupancy levels. Trains with classes having occupancy less than 50 percent during the last 30 days will be taken into consideration.

The fares of competitive modes of transport will be considered while determining the quantum of discount. The discount can be given for the first and/or last leg of the journey, intermediate sections, and/or end-to-end journey, provided the occupancy is less than 50 percent in that specific leg/section/end-to-end.

The discount scheme will be implemented immediately, but no refund of fare will be admissible for already booked passengers. In the case of a particular class of train having a flexi fare system and low occupancy, the scheme may be initially withdrawn to boost occupancy rates.
