IndiGo, a leading airline in India, has grounded one of its aircraft, VT-IMG, following a tail strike incident during landing at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport. The tail strike occurred on Sunday, June 11. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed the incident, stating that the flight was uneventful until the approach to land at Delhi.
Crew De-Rostered Pending Investigation
In response to the tail strike incident, the operating crew of the flight has been de-rostered pending investigation. The crew members will remain off-duty until the probe into the incident is completed. The DGCA reported that during the approach on runway 27, the crew felt that the aircraft floated longer than normal and initiated a go-around maneuver. It is believed that the bottom of the tail portion of the aircraft touched the runway surface during the go-around, resulting in damages.
IndiGo Kolkata-Delhi Flight Grounded for Assessment and Repairs
The affected flight, 6E-6183, was an IndiGo A321-252NX (Neo) aircraft operating from Kolkata to Delhi. Following the tail strike incident, the airline has declared the aircraft grounded for necessary assessment and repairs. Relevant authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the incident to determine the cause and ensure appropriate measures are taken.
Other Recent Incidents Involving IndiGo Flights
This tail strike incident follows a series of other technical glitches and emergency landings involving IndiGo flights. In one incident, an IndiGo Airlines flight from Amritsar to Ahmedabad deviated into Pakistani airspace near Lahore due to adverse weather conditions but safely returned to Indian airspace without any mishap. Another incident involved an IndiGo Delhi-Chennai flight (6E-2789) that had to make a safe emergency landing within an hour of take-off from Indira Gandhi International Airport due to an engine snag. These incidents highlight the challenges faced by airlines in ensuring the safety and reliability of their operations.
IndiGo’s VT-IMG aircraft has been grounded after experiencing a tail strike during landing at Delhi’s IGI airport. The crew of the flight has been de-rostered while an investigation is underway. The incident emphasizes the importance of thorough maintenance and safety protocols in the aviation industry to ensure the well-being of passengers and crew.
