In a recent meeting with senior police officials, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized the need for “no saffronisation” and “no moral policing” in the state. He firmly stated that these practices would be put to an end under his leadership. The Chief Minister expressed his dissatisfaction with the style of functioning of the top police brass during the previous BJP government and urged them to work impartially.
People-Friendly Policing and Maintaining Law and Order
Siddaramaiah highlighted that the priority of the police should be people-friendly policing and ensuring law and order in the state. He urged the police to promptly and strictly address any social media posts that could disrupt social harmony or provoke certain groups. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of courteous behavior towards people who come to file complaints, extending this expectation to both police inspectors and Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs).
Accountability for Crimes and Illegal Acts

The Chief Minister made it clear that not only police inspectors but also DCPs would be held responsible for crimes and illegal acts such as rowdyism, clubs, and drug-related activities within their respective police station limits. He stated that action would be taken against any officer found to be involved in such activities.
Equality and Protection for All
During the maintenance of law and order, Siddaramaiah emphasized that there should be no discrimination between religions. He stressed that every individual should be treated equally and protected equally by the police.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and several other ministers attended the meeting, where Shivakumar warned against any attempts to saffronise the police force. The Deputy Chief Minister specifically addressed the issue of police officers donning saffron attire during a festival celebration under the previous BJP regime in 2021 and warned against such activities within the department.
