Karnataka Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai, stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would win the state election with a comfortable majority, dismissing pre-poll surveys that indicated an edge for the opposition Congress party. The BJP leader indicated that his party would not require any support from Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) to win the election, and that his party would get an absolute majority. In addition, Bommai criticized the Congress party for lowering the level of election discourse. The Karnataka elections are scheduled for May 10, 2023.
CM predicts a BJP comfortable majority
The Karnataka Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai, is confident that the BJP will win the upcoming assembly elections with a “comfortable majority” without the need for support from the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S). He denied Congress having any edge in the upcoming state elections scheduled for May 10, 2023. Bommai dismissed the pre-poll surveys giving the Congress party an advantage and criticized the Congress party for plunging the election discourse to a low level.
Former CM will be defeated this time
The CM also stated that former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, who defected to the Congress party after being denied a BJP ticket, would be defeated in the upcoming elections. Bommai denied any major impact on Lingayat votes in the state and said his party would win Shettar’s seat.
Internal reservation under OBCs a long pending demand
Basavaraj Bommai, in an interview with PTI, said internal reservation under OBCs and other things were a long-pending demand, and he has addressed them. The CM stated that many people were not able to enjoy the benefit earlier because the reservation was not given as per the population. With the internal reservation, those sections of people have got hopes, he added. However, he said that the Government of India had to make the ultimate decision.
