Kartik Aaryan Talks About His Decision To Forego Pay As Producer On “Shehzada”

Kartik Aaryan’s first film as a producer is Shehzada. In a new interview, the actor discusses what inspired him to forego his paycheck and instead work as a co-producer on the film, which premiered this weekend.
Shehzada also stars Kriti Sanon and Paresh Rawal in significant roles. The film, directed by Rohit Dhawan, was released on February 17th. The film’s original February 10 release date has been pushed back “out of respect for Pathaan.” Pathaan, Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film, has been a box office success since its release a month ago.
When asked about his pay as a producer on Shehzada, Kartik told ETimes, “I’m not getting as much money as I used to, and I’m working on a profit-sharing basis.”
This time is different. I was not initially interested in a producer role on Shehzada. My first step was to cash in on my fees and compensation. Then an emergency occurred. There was a pivotal moment in the film that demanded decisive action. That’s why, before handing over the money, I contacted my producer. That’s how I wound up on the production team as a co-producer.”
When asked if he returned any of his pay, the actor elaborated, saying, “Just barely. That, I suppose, relieved some of the pressure on the film. Even though I had not yet signed on for Bhool Bhulaiyya 2, I felt compelled to sign on for this film because it was so closely related to the sequel. Fortunately, the budget for this one (Shehzada) was not too high, but because it is an action film, it still required some funding. And there were some issues that eventually led to my resignation (the remuneration). And where we are right now is a good place to be.” Shehzada may appear lavish because the actor’s fees and other such expenses were not covered, but it is actually a low- to moderate-budget production, according to him.
“We face problems while working on films,” Kartik said at the premiere of Shehzada’s trailer. Every film contains flaws. When I make a film, I give it my all. The key is to commit 100 percent of your time. My producers deserve full credit for giving me producer credit.
Manisha Koirala and Ronit Roy both play important roles in Shehzada. Ala Vaikunthapurramloo is a Hindi remake of the Telugu film Ala Vaikunthapurramloo. He took centre stage in this Telugu film starring Allu Arjun.
