Kerala is on the verge of experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall for an extended period of five days, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This weather event is a consequence of a cyclonic circulation affecting northern Tamil Nadu and its neighboring regions. According to the IMD, Kerala can anticipate widespread moderate to medium rainfall over the next five days, with isolated areas in the state expecting heavy rain between November 6 and 9.
Recent Rainfall Patterns
In the previous month, most regions of the state received average or slightly above-average rainfall. Data from IMD reveals that Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts witnessed excess rainfall, while Thiruvananthapuram and Pathanamthitta experienced notably higher than average precipitation. The only district that remained rain-deficient until November 5 was Wayanad.
- Excess rainfall implies an increase of 20% to 59% above the normal seasonal rainfall.
- Large excess signifies a surge of 60% or more above the typical seasonal rainfall.
Orange Alert Issued
The IMD sounded an Orange alert on Sunday, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in specific regions of Kerala. The affected districts include Malappuram, Idukki, and Pathanamthitta on November 5 and 6. Rainfall in these areas is expected to range from 115.6 to 204.4 mm.
