In a shocking revelation, Kerala police recently uncovered alleged medical negligence that occurred during a woman’s cesarean delivery in 2017. The investigation found that forceps were accidentally left inside the woman’s stomach after the C-section, leading to severe health complications.
Police Probe and Medical Board Formation
After receiving a complaint last year, the police launched an investigation into the matter. Following the completion of the inquiry, a report was submitted to the District Medical Officer (DMO) to establish a medical board for further investigation.
The Victim’s Struggle
The victim, Harshinia (30) from Kozhikode, had undergone two previous C-sections in private hospitals before the 2017 surgery at Kozhikode Medical College. Last year, she developed excruciating pain, prompting doctors to discover and remove mosquito artery forceps that had been inside her stomach for five years.
Authorities Respond
Initially, officials from the medical college denied any malpractice, citing her prior cesarean deliveries in private facilities. However, in light of the police’s findings, a medical board was formed to conduct a comprehensive probe into the incident.
Seeking Justice
For the past two months, Harshinia has been protesting against the medical institution’s administrators, demanding justice for the alleged negligence. With the police validating her claims, the government announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the victim.
