Incessant rains wreak havoc in Kerala, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert in Idukki district and an orange alert in six other districts. The heavy downpour has resulted in the overflowing of the Kakkad River, causing water to enter residential areas of Kannur city. Educational institutes in 11 districts have been closed due to the rainfall.
Kakkad River Overflows, Posing Challenges for Kannur City
As per reports, the Kakkad River has overflowed, leading to water entering residential areas of Kannur city. To manage the situation, makeshift barricades have been set up to discourage people from using flooded routes.
Waterlogging in Kottayam, IMD Issues Yellow Alert
In addition to Kannur city, some residential areas in Kottayam have also faced waterlogging due to incessant rainfall. The Kodoor river in the region is nearing overflow. The IMD has issued a Yellow alert for the district today, indicating the need for caution.
