The Fast Family is expanding even further. Brie Larson, who plays Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will join the cast of “Fast and Furious 10,” according to “Fast and Furious” star Vin Diesel, who announced the news on Instagram.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah… When you see this angel over my shoulder, you think to yourself, ‘That’s Captain Marvel.’ This image clearly depicts love and laughter. What you don’t see, however, is the character you’ll meet in ‘Fast 10.’ You have no idea how amazing and timeless she will be in our mythology. Beyond her beauty, intellect, and Oscar, haha, she has a profound soul that will add something unexpected but longed for. “Welcome to the FAMILY, Brie,” Diesel said on Instagram late Saturday night.
Justin Lin will direct “Fast and Furious 10,” which will hit theatres on May 19, 2023. Diesel will reprise his role as Dom Toretto, as will the rest of his team, which includes Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Sung Kang, and Charlize Theron, who has played the villain Cypher since “The Fate of the Furious.”
Jason Momoa and Daniela Melchior joined the all-star cast of “Fast and Furious 10” earlier this year, joining the ranks of superhero stars who have joined the Fast Family. In addition to Larson’s Captain Marvel role, Momoa plays Aquaman in the DC Universe, and Melchior played Ratcatcher II in James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad.” Gal Gadot, John Cena, Kurt Russell, Michael Rooker, Idris Elba, and Djimon Hounsou are among the Fast Family members who have played superhero characters in the Marvel and DC franchises.
Dwayne Johnson, who played badass cop Luke Hobbs in five “Fast” films, turned down a public invitation from Diesel to return to the high-octane franchise late last year.
“Fast and Furious 10” will be the penultimate chapter for the current cast of characters; an 11th film, also directed by Lin, is set to be the Fast Saga’s final instalment.
