Who Is Laura Loomer? Far-Right Firebrand at Center of Trump’s NSC Shake-Up

Laura Loomer, a controversial far-right activist, is once again making national headlines after her Oval Office meeting with President Donald Trump reportedly led to the firing of at least three officials from the National Security Council (NSC). According to sources familiar with internal discussions, Loomer presented a list of allegedly “disloyal” staffers — and Trump acted swiftly.

As the story sends shockwaves across Washington, including coverage from Fox News and CNN, many are now asking: Who is Laura Loomer, and how did she gain such power inside Trump’s White House?

Who Is Laura Loomer?

Loomer, 30, is a far-right political activist, conspiracy theorist, and self-described investigative journalist. She first rose to prominence through her provocative social media tactics, including staging public stunts and posting inflammatory videos that challenge mainstream political narratives.

Some of her past claims include:

  • Asserting that 9/11 was an inside job
  • Calling for a non-Islamic ride-sharing app, stating she didn’t want Muslim drivers
  • Suggesting Vice President Kamala Harris would turn the White House into a “call center” because of her Indian heritage
  • Circulating the false claim that migrants were eating pets in Ohio

Despite being banned from Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram in the late 2010s, Loomer remained active on smaller platforms and later returned to X (formerly Twitter).

Loomer’s Ties to Trump and MAGA World

Loomer has been a fixture at Trump events, regularly seen in the background at campaign rallies and even deboarding Trump’s private jet. Her proximity to Trump raised eyebrows during the 2024 campaign, especially as some of her posts would seemingly preview Trump’s public messaging.

This week, that connection reached a boiling point when Loomer met Trump in the Oval Office. According to CNN and The New York Times, Loomer handed Trump a list of NSC officials she deemed disloyal, prompting a sudden purge within 24 hours.

NSC Firings: Who Got Let Go and Why?

As per reports confirmed by three sources, the Trump administration fired multiple NSC staffers, including:

  • Brian Walsh, former intelligence director and Marco Rubio staffer
  • Thomas Boodry, senior director for legislative affairs and former legislative director for Michael Waltz
  • David Feith, senior director overseeing tech and national security and former State Department official

The move has left National Security Adviser Michael Waltz in a politically precarious position, especially after reports surfaced that Signal messages about military strikes in Yemen were leaked from within his team.

Loomer’s Alleged Target: Alex Wong

One of the officials Loomer directly named in her list was Alex Wong, Trump’s Principal Deputy National Security Adviser. While Wong was not among those fired on Wednesday, multiple sources suggested he may still be removed in the coming days.

Wong has been accused by Loomer and her allies of being a “Never Trumper”, although he remains a respected figure within conservative foreign policy circles.

Trump Denies Loomer Ordered Firings – But Calls Her “A Very Good Patriot”

Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump denied that Loomer directly ordered the firings but praised her involvement in White House strategy:

“Always, we’re going to let go of people… people that may have loyalties to someone else,” Trump said. “But she’s a very good patriot.”

He confirmed that while Loomer has made recommendations, including both hirings and firings, the final decisions are his alone.

NSC on the Defensive

An NSC spokesperson, Brian Hughes, declined to comment on the specific firings, saying only, “NSC doesn’t comment on personnel matters.”

Still, the firings have rattled staff across national security agencies, many of whom now fear that ideological loyalty — not experience or service record — is becoming the sole benchmark for job security in Trump’s second term.

A Pattern of Activist Influence

This is not the first time far-right activists have been linked to personnel changes in the Trump administration:

  • Christopher Rufo, another activist, published alleged NSA chat logs involving explicit messages; Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard reportedly fired officials shortly after.
  • Rufo also amplified false rumors about migrants eating pets in Ohio, which Trump later referenced in a presidential debate — drawing widespread backlash.

These incidents highlight the unusual level of influence wielded by activists like Loomer and Rufo inside Trump’s inner circle.

Political Fallout & Fox News Response

While Fox News has yet to publish an official editorial on the firings, several conservative commentators have quietly questioned whether Loomer’s influence is healthy for national security. Others have defended Trump’s decision as a “loyalty test” necessary for pushing his second-term agenda without internal resistance.

Critics, however, see this as a dangerous precedent, warning that the White House is outsourcing national security decisions to political influencers.

Loomer’s Rise: From Fringe to Front Row

Laura Loomer has twice run unsuccessfully for Congress in Florida but has continued to build a cult-like online following. Her unapologetically incendiary style, paired with her willingness to confront political elites, has made her a celebrity in far-right spaces — and now a power player in Washington.

Even though she insists she is “not anti-Muslim”, her 2018 social media posts and self-label as a “proud Islamophobe” continue to haunt her public image.

Why This Story Matters

The latest firings inside the NSC are more than just an internal reshuffle — they reflect a broader trend of ideological cleansing under Trump’s leadership. With voices like Laura Loomer now influencing national security personnel decisions, questions about the integrity and independence of U.S. policy-making are only growing louder.

As the White House braces for further scrutiny — and possibly more departures — Loomer’s role as an unelected power broker shows just how much political dynamics in Washington have shifted.
