In yet another violation of prison rules, a video surfaced on social media showing inmates celebrating a birthday party inside Ludhiana Central Jail. The incident has raised questions about the lax security measures in place.
The Viral Video
The video captured a group of inmates sitting in a barrack, enjoying a feast and cheering for the birthday celebration of an undertrial named Arun Kumar alias Anil alias Mani. The inmates chanted, “Ajj saade Mani veer da birthday hai…” (Today is the birthday of our brother Mani).
Lack of Jamming Devices
In response to inquiries about how the inmates accessed mobile phones and the internet, Ludhiana jail superintendent Shivraj Singh admitted that currently, no jammers are installed inside the jail. He mentioned that a request has been sent to the government to address this security loophole.
Actions Taken
Upon discovering the video, authorities confiscated the cellphone from Mani, but it was broken, making it difficult to access any data. An FIR was registered against him, and an additional complaint has been filed against 10 other inmates identified from the video.

This incident adds to a series of security breaches in Ludhiana Central Jail. Recent events include a jailed Youth Congress leader attending a marriage party, a drug racket operating from the jail, and allegations of corrupt practices by a jail warder.

Senior Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu criticized the lack of security measures, pointing out the absence of jammers. He questioned the adequacy of personnel managing the inmates.
