“CM @MamataOfficial called me and informed me that she had submitted her resignation as CM, which had been accepted. Dhankhar tweeted, “She has been asked to continue until alternative arrangements are made.”

At a meeting, the TMC’s MLAs unanimously elected Mamata Banerjee as the legislative party’s leader, according to Partha Chatterjee, the TMC’s secretary-general. In another tweet, Dhankhar said, “Taking note of communication @AITCofficial electing @MamataOfficial as leader of the 17th WB Legislative Assembly, we have invited her to take oath of office as Chief Minister on May 5 at 10.45 am at Raj Bhawan.”

Biman Banerjee, the speaker of the previous House, was also elected as the pro-tem speaker of the new Assembly by the TMC legislators. After the meeting of the legislators, Chatterjee told reporters at the party headquarters, “The newly-elected members will take oath in the Assembly from May 6.”

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Mamata Banerjee’s inauguration will be a low-key affair. Mamata Banerjee, in particular, will be the only leader to take the oath today.
