Hyundai Unveils Details Of Upcoming Exter Launch In India, With 3 Powertrain Options And 5 Variants To Choose From


Hyundai has released information about its upcoming launch in India, the Exter SUV. The vehicle is slated for release in August and will be the entry-level offering in India’s SUV lineup. The car manufacturer has opened bookings for the Exter, with an Rs 11,000 deposit. The Exter SUV comes with three powertrain options, including a 1.2 l Kappa petrol engine (E20 Fuel Ready) with a choice of five-speed manual transmission & AMT and a 1.2 l Bi-fuel Kappa petrol and CNG with a five-speed manual transmission. The SUV will have five variants, including EX, S, SX, SX(O), and SX(O) Connect, and nine exterior color options, including six monotone and three dual-tone options.

Design and Features

Hyundai has announced details of the Exter SUV ahead of its India launch in August. The vehicle will be the entry-level offering from Hyundai in India, with three engine options and five variants available. Bookings are open now, with an Rs 11,000 deposit required. The Exter is expected to compete with micro SUVs such as the Tata Punch and Nissan Magnite.


The Exter SUV will have Hyundai’s latest Parametric design language, which features a parametric grille, C pillar, and diamond-cut alloys. It will also have SUV-like design elements, such as roof rails and a skid plate. The front end of the SUV features projector headlights and LED DRLs. Interior and feature details have not yet been revealed, but buyers can expect features like a touchscreen, wireless charging, connected car technology, and a rearview camera display. The top-end trim will likely come with six airbags.

Competition and Expectations


The micro SUV segment has been expanding in India, with Tata’s Punch and Nissan’s Magnite. The Hyundai Exter SUV will be another big seller for the carmaker, considering the segment volumes. The company has not revealed the interior details and features yet, but the SUV’s design and exterior color options seem impressive.
