Filmmaker Karan Johar recently reminisced about a moment from the past when his late father, Yash Johar, couldn’t contain his excitement and continually praised him in front of renowned filmmaker Mani Ratnam. This incident took place before Karan had even made his directorial debut with “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.”
Yash Johar’s Unwavering Belief
During the Film Companion Directors Adda 2023, Karan shared that his father held the unwavering belief that he was the most talented and attractive person on Earth. However, this adoration became a source of embarrassment for Karan, especially during an awkward encounter with Mani Ratnam on the sets of “Dil Se,” where he was shooting the iconic ‘Chaiya Chaiya’ song.
Uncomfortable Encounter
Expressing his discomfort, Karan said, “I used to get scared going anywhere with him because he would start showing off about me. I used to die because he met Mani sir at the same location where ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ was being shot.”
Yash Johar’s Legacy
Yash Johar, a pillar of support for Karan, passed away in 2004. Despite the initial discomfort, Karan now fondly remembers these moments as a testament to his late father’s immense love and belief in his abilities.
